THE COUNTRY'S POSITION
UNCOMMONLY STRONG
We received a lengthy statement last evening from the Minister of Finance in reference to the Dominion's financial position. The revenue for January shows an increase of £555,541 over the revenue of January, 1917, practically every branch of revenue showing an increase.
During the ten months ending January 31st the receipts were £719,5(55 in excess of those for the corresponding period, despite the fact that the Customs show a falling off of £411,7.31 and the railways £166,043. The statement concludes: "Looking at the whole matter impartially it is clear that the financial position of the country is uncommonly strong, and it is very gratifying and reassuring to the country as a whole that it is bo."
