DESTRUCTION IN QUEENSLAND. DUE TO THE CYCLONE. (Received February 5, 11.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, February 5. Innisfail reports a record flood. There is 10ft of Avater on tho esplanade. ChinatoAA'n is submerged to the roofs. The flood is due to the cyclone overflowing tho river. The country is covered for miles, only the housetops and trees being visible. Tho stock losses are hoavy. It is not knoAv how tho residents in the country fared,- owing to there being no communication. The Avlliarf almost collapsed and a. shed Avas broken in halves. Tons of driftwood, bananas, sugar cane, dead horses, cattle, and pigs floated doAvnstream. There have been no casualties yet. The water is receding, leaving a mass of debrL on the river front and streets. A subscription list has been opened by the Mayor of Brisbane. PTTENOME XA L RAINFALL. HEARTRENDING SCENES. . SEVERAL LI YES LOST. (Received Last Night, 10.40 o'clock.) BRISBANE, February •">. Innisfail reports states that twenty inches of rain have fallen in twentyfour hours. Heartrending scenes have occurred, families having been rescued from the housetops. Sixteen persons took refuge in one house. A man named Keith Smith has been drowned, also a Chinaman and a black gin. It is believed that other Chinese ha«*e ak'o perished. Thirtv-tAvo inches of rain fell at Tvuranda in .forty-eighit hours. A landslip of seven thousand yards occurred on tlu* Herhorten Range raihvay.
