Tons of driftwood, bananas, sugar cane, dead horses, cattle, and pigs floated doAvnstream. There have been no casualties yet. The water is receding, leaving a mass of debrL on the river front and streets. A subscription list has been opened by the Mayor of Brisbane. PTTENOME XA L RAINFALL. HEARTRENDING SCENES. . SEVERAL LI YES LOST. (Received Last Night, 10.40 o'clock.) BRISBANE, February •">. Innisfail reports states that twenty inches of rain have fallen in twentyfour hours. Heartrending scenes have occurred, families having been rescued from the housetops. Sixteen persons took refuge in one house. A man named Keith Smith has been drowned, also a Chinaman and a black gin. It is believed that other Chinese ha«*e ak'o perished. Thirtv-tAvo inches of rain fell at Tvuranda in .forty-eighit hours. A landslip of seven thousand yards occurred on tlu* Herhorten Range raihvay.
