METHODIST CONFERENCE
OPENED IX WELLINGTON, (7)\v Tel eg raph.—I'rcss Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Tho Methodist Conference opened this evening, the Rev W. Ready, Auckland, presiding, and with him on the platform were ])r H. Youngman, president of the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia, and Dr Morley, another General Conference representative. The retiring president congratulated tiie Church on tho approaching union of the two kindred bodies in New Zealand, and the generosity .of the Australian body in setting the New Zealand section free with legislative as well as administrative power. TJtRev S. La wry was elected president of the Conference, and the llev 0. H. Laws secretary. Mr J. A. Flos her (convener of the legal committee) .submitted a formal report upon the steps taken to secure the constitution of tho New Zealand Conference as an independent conference. He moved a resolution expressing' the gratitude of the Methodist Church of New Ze-n----la.nd at the successful termination of the long-continued efforts to secure independent legislative powers, and tho hope that under the new constitution tho Church would "attain increased public, influence nntl spiritual power. The Rev W. ,T. Williams seconded the motion, which was carried. T>r Youngman and Dr Morley addressed the Conference, conveying the goodwill of the Methodist Church of Australasia, and the Conference a.' 1 journed till to-morrow
