CENSUS SHOWS PROGRESS OF UPPER HUTT.

It is pleasing to record a verysatisfactory increase in the population of Upper Hutt as revealed by the census. An increase of 1000 is an indication of steady growth and the near future should see Upper Hutt district becoming indeed "the head of the Valley" by leaps and bounds. A progressive Upper Hutt policy by councillors, business people, and all residents will attract people to make their homes in the best positioned and sunniest spot nearWellington. Upper Hutt Borough in this year of 1936 has a population of 3,86& (increase 1009), Petone Borough 10,935 (increase 1626) , Lower Hutt. 15,953 (record increase in N.Z., 7991). If Upper Hutt Borough will determine to make the next 10 years a period of advancement and progress we would predict the population to be 10,000 at the next censxis.
