UPPER HUTT SUB-CENTRE N.Z. RED CROSS SOCIETY. ANNUAL REPORT RELIEF DEPOT.

Chiefly on account of there being no building Or room obtainable for use as a depot it was decided by the Relief Committee not to have an open depot during the winter as in previous years. By the courtesy of Messrs. Hazelwood and Co., Ltd., we were able to use the room rented by the Home Nursing - Class to store clothing and distribute from there as the necessitous cases were recommended to us. It was decided not to hold a clothes drive, but to appeal for clothing through the Women's Institutes in the district. We gratefully record our warm thanks to the members of these Institutes for the parcels of clothing received. Returned soldiers and their families were assisted with new clothing, boots and medicine with the allotment from the Joint Allocation Fund. Other families were supplied with new clothing and boots with funds from the Macarthy Trust and our own Relief Work Fund. Twenty pairs of used blankets were bought from the Defence Department and distributed. We desire to thank all members of committee, especially those representing the various churches and societies working in co-opera-tion with us. for their untiring efforts in helping us to carry on with the relief work brought to our notice.
