T.M.B. v. CAVERSHAM RIFLES.
On Thursday tbe Taapeka Mounted Rifles team fired its maiden match with a team from another corps (Oaversham Rifles), the match taking place on the central range, Wetherstones. It resalted in a win for the local team by the large margin of 140 points, and what makes the win more creditable is the fact that several of the winners had not previously fired a shot through the new •303 rifle, while tbe others bad very little practice. A start was made about 9.30 in variable weather and towards tbe finish heavy rain fell, and taken altogether the morning was not favorable for good shooting. The visitors were a man short, and were allowed to count an average score. The detailed scores are : —

Sergt. Johnston, of Waipori, and Tr Bloy, of Lawrence, the top scorers of the match, shot remarkably well, seeing that both are new to rifle-shooting, while the latter is only a lad. The team speaks in high praise of the new rifles, which gave every satisfaction. After the match tbe visitors were entertained at a sumptuous dinner at Duff's Commercial Hotel, and they speak in high terms of the all-round treatment they reoeived daring their stay. Before leaving in the afternoon cheers were given by both aides.
A very interesting and much talkedof match takes place on the Wetherstones range at 2.30 p.m. to-day, when a team of Citizens and a Tuapeka Mounted Rifle team, 12 men aside, will try conclusions. Conveyances will leave Kelleher's corner at 2,15p,m. and 3p.m. sharp.
