LAWRENCE v. WAIPORI.
A aec'ion of the Lawrence division of the Tnapeka Mounted Rifles rode to Waipori on New Year's morning and fired a match with a section of the Waipori division — seven shots and an op tional sighter at 500 and 600 yards. A strong left front wind was blowing over the range, and considerably affected the' shooting, Sergt. Johnston (Waipori) being top scorer with 58 (29 and 29) The home team won by 14 points. This is the first of a series of district matches which will be fired by members of the corps, and as efficient ranges are in good going order in Waitabuna, Waipori,. Taapeka West, and Lawrenoe, home-and-home or half-way matches can be easily arranged between any of districts, this should benefit the corps very muoh and materially increase its shooting standard. It is to be hoped members of the corps will take full advantage of the facilities offered and the splendid rifle with which they are now armed. Competitions for good trophies will shortly be ai. soaced.
