CORRESPONDENCE.

THE PRICE OF BREAD AND A COOPERATIVE BAKERY. [To THE EDITOB.] Sib,— The holiday in Dunedin last Wednesday prevented me getting in time for last Saturday's issue tbe information I was in search of, re the possibility of getting bread up by the morning train. The information vow, however, is to hand, and it is quite possible to deliver bread in Lawrence by the morning train. I have also oaust-d inquiries ; to be made about the building in Peel-street and I learn that it belongs to the Waitabuoa Friendly Society of Oddfellows and could be bought for something like £300. There should, therefore, not be much difficulty in raising that amount ; but after due consideration of the apathy displayed in connection with the whole subject (it should bave evoked at lea^t half a dozen letters), I have come to the conclusion that the several thousand residents in the distriot are perfectly satisfied , with the present state of affairs and are ' quite willing to continue to pay 6d for the four pound loaf notwithstanding the fact that the Tuapeka distriot is the only distriot I io Otago where such a obarge is made, that I / bave resolved to allow things to take their t course and trouble no more about the matter. I thank my unknown friend "A Consumer " for bis very generous oftVr of support, and I think be will agree with me in I he course of action I have resolved to adopt. Thanking you, Sir, for the Bpaoe allowed me for ventilating the subject,— l am, &o. t . Akqus. October 14th, 1901.
