ANOTHER FATAL DREDGE ACCIDENT.

Information was received in town on Thursday evening (saya the " Daily Times ") of tbe drowning in the Molyneux of Mr Archibald M'liean, dredgemaster ot the First Chance dredge, near Alexandra. The directors had instructed Mr M'Lean, owing to the high river to discharge the crew, leaving the engineer in charge. M'Lean was at work on board preparatory to clo-ing down for a time, when he slipped and fell overboard into the river. The engineer, who wa3 below at the time, rushed on deck and threw a lifebelt to M'Lean, but the latter failed to grasp it, and was quickly carried away by the current. He was seen to be swimming strongly for a time, and one or two m^n on the bank were watching to render assistance, when Mr M'Lsan was seen to throw up his bands and disappear. Se waa not seen to rise again. Ho was well known in the district, and much respected. He was local director of the Sailor's Bend and Davis'a Bend Gold Dredging Companies. We understand he was a widower, and leaves two children.

The body was picked up the following morning by the Golden River dredg", six miles from the scene of the accident.

Deceased was a brother of Mrs Rae, of Raes Junction.
