FIRE PROTECTION.
New Board Elected at Upper Riccarton. The Upper Riccarton Fire Board was set up at a meeting of ratepayers of the district about twelve months ago to raise money to provide some adequate form of fire protection for Upper Riccarton and Sockburn. Last night, a further meeting of ratepayers was held to receive a report on the year’s activities and to elect a new board for the coming year. Mr J. Colligan was in the chair. It was reported that about £2B was in hand and that a further £l3 had been promised. Mr F. J. Collins resigned from the board and Mr Colligan resigned from the position of chairman. The following were elected members of the board for the coming year: Messrs F. J. Alley, Winter Cole, E. Evans, S. Mangon, J. C. Pascoe, R. E. Bigg, 11. Purvis, L. Storer, J. Colligan and F. T. Witty. (One more to be added.) At a subsequent meeting of the board, Mr Cole was appointed chairman, Mr Pascoe secretary, Mr Alley treasurer, and Messrs Alley and Mangon collectors. The trustees, Messrs J. E. Hanson and H. Manhire, were re-elected.
