ASHBURTON NEWS.

Meeting of Sunlight League. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, November 6. Members of the Ashburton branch of the Sunlight League met at the residence of Mrs W. R. Lane last evening and listened to a broadcast talk by Miss Cora Wilding, Christchurch, on the health camps of other countries. Later an interesting paper on the stibject of diet in relation to dental caries was given by Mr W. L. Jones. Two piano solos given by Mrs R. B. Lambert were much appreciated. Mrs Lane Was accorded a vote of thanks for her hospitality, Mr Jones was thanked for his paper and Mr D. Buchanan for the use of the radio set. Mrs F. W. Watt presided at the meeting. Druids’ Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of the Star of Ashburton Lodge was held in the Masonic Hall last evening. Brother A. Garriock, A.D., presiding over a large attendance, including members of the Success of Ashburton Lodge. The Grand Lodge officers paid an official visit, the following representatives being present: Grand President, Brother Freeman: Grand Secretary, Brother Talbot: Grand Treasurer. Brother Collins: Grand Guardian. Brother M’Kenzie and Brothers Barnes and Ives. Past Grand Presidents. The Grand Lodge officers spoke on several matters concerning the welfare of the Order. Votes of sympathy were passed with the relatives of the late Brothers R. Harrison and J. Watt. The Bards reported on visits to-sick members and sick pay. vas passed. Fancy Dress Dance. A successful fancy dress dance was held in St Stephen's Hall last evening with the object of raising funds for the New Year camp for the bovs of St Stephen's Anglican Church choir. The gathering was organised by Mr T. C. Thompson and Miss B. Furby. Music for the children's dance was supplied by Miss M’Uraith and Mr L. Harper .vas M.C. Among the children in fancy dress were the following: Eleanor Thompson (Blue Bag), Betty Stills (Russian Girl). Billie Stills ’ (Bridesmaid), Jack Lewis (Military Officer), Diana Collins (Gipsy Girl), Pauline Elmsley (Duck Girl I. Daphne White (Pierrette), Betty Walker (Skater). Barbara Lewis (Sailor), Jean Lewis (Sportsman), Alma Todd (Gipsv), Daphne Stayt (Artist). Shirley Moore ( Artist). Betty Holland (Russian Girl), Joyce Denlev (Russian Princess), Gwynne Jackson (Highland Lassie), Rose Denlev (Jazz).
