Secured Commission on Bogus Orders.

Giving his employers bogus orders and collecting commission on them, Roderick John Young, a salesman, of no fixed abode, 27 >*ears of age, appeared in the Police Court this morning oi\ a charge of obtaining, between September 23 and September 29. £4 10s from Hector Poulton by means of a false pretence. Young, who pleaded guilty, was represented by Mr Tracy. Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.. was on the Bench. Chief-Detective Dunlop said that in September last. Young had been employed by a photographic concern to secure orders for enlargements. Besides his allowance, he was to be given commission. Young presented nine (different orders from persons purporting to live in Akaroa. He collected £4 10s in commission and then disappeared. It was, found by his employers the orders were all bogus. Young was later found on a farm at Te Awamutu. Mr Tracy said that when Young first entered the business, he understood he was to receive £6 a week and 10s per order. He found, however, that out of the £6 he had to pay two other canvassers £1 each, and for car hire, as well as pay for the running of the car. In addition, he was sending £1 a week to his wife, living in separation. It was impossible for him to live, so he committed the fences to get money. Young was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, and to refund the £4 10s.
