ACCEPTANCES.

South Canterbury Hunt Club’s Meeting.

Per Press Association. TIMARU. July* 23. Following are acceptances for the South Canterbury H’.nt meeting:

PROFIT ON YEAR. South Canterbury Jockey Club’s Report. The annual' meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey Club will be held , on Thursday night. The report states that a profit of £3SO 16s 7d was made on the year’s operations, a very satisfactory result, when compared with the previous year’s figures, which showed a loss of £467 7s Id. The totalisator investments were £34,595, against £31,184 for the previous year. The club gave £3500 in stakes, an increase of £45. At the end of the second year of a reduced* subscription, the committee expresses pleasure at the increasing membership. Four race meetings were held, the first three being very successful. There was a small loss on the June meting, held in June, but considering the time of the year this result was considered quite satisfactory. The win and place system of betting was in operation at the October fixture, but from the club’s point of view very little benefit accrued and the old system was reverted to for the remainder of the season. The race meetings were well supported, a result which was considered due to the confidence in the club’s paid officials. The club was put to very little expense in making improvements. A very necessary improvement, however, tlie building of a new booth, will be put in hand immediately, the cost being met out. of the Government rebate on totalisator turnover received by the Trotting Club, to which the thanks of the club were due for its assistance, it being regretted that the Jockey Club was not in a position to bear any of the cost. The tracks had again given some concern, owing to periodical wet spells, but the consideration of the trainers had enabled the caretaker to have the course in first-class order on race days. Regret was expressed at the death of Mr T. R. Mackay, for many years a valued member of the committee and the treasurer of the club. Sympathy was also extended to the relatives of Messrs J. J. Ardagh, E. Jones, F. Nelligan and R. A. Rickman, members of tlie club who died during the year. In accordance with the rules, Messrs A. S. El worthy, H. Lowrv. C. R. Orbell. T. Seaton and T. R. Rhodes retired from the committee, hut they had been nominated again and, there being no opposition. no ballot would be necessary. The vacancy on the committee, caused hv the death of Mr Mackay, bad been filled by Mr J. E. P. Cameron. The club of Mr W. Morrison, who was transferred to "Dunedin, and bis nlace on the committee had been filled by Mr H. H. Fisher. N.Z. HORSES AMISS. Trainer Carroll’s Unlucky Start.
