AT MARTON.

Rangitikei Hunt Club’s Meeting. RACES FOR AMATEUR RIDERS. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, July 24. Although the hunters’ events have filled quite satisfactorily, the fields for the other events at the Rangitikei Hunt Club’s anual meeting on the Marton racecourse to-morrow are rather lighter than usual. The success of the similar fixture at Hastings on Saturday is, however, a pleasing auspice for to-morrow’s meeting, and if the weather remains fine the club should enjoy one of its best fixtures in recent years. The going is almost certain to be soft.

The principal event is the Rangitikei Hunt Cup, for which there is an acceptance of nine. The quality of the field is indicated by the fact that only three horses are weighted above the minimum. Consent, who heads the list, does not seem able to stick at all now, and his effort at Hastings on Saturday did not improve impressions about him. A more likely sort is Avro, a good hurdler in the making two years ago. and lately with hunting experience. Coonoor may do better than at Hastings, and No Humbug, Currajong and Hinatore are all possibles. For the Rosebank Hack Hurdles the field has been reduced to only four by the acceptance. Luna Lux. if on hand, will probably be a good favourite. but Headland and Silent Bill’. who each ran seconds at Dannevirke recently. will dispute the issue with him.

The hunters will have further opportunities in the Riddiford Steeplechase and Otairi Ladies’ Bracelet, both events for gentlemen riders, so that riders rather than form may give the better clue to the probable result. The steeples is for purely maiden hunters. Betting will be conducted under the old 75-25 per cent single-pool system. The following are among the horses who may claim attention:— Riddiford Steeplechase—No Humbug, Taneka, and War Eagle. Glenmore Maiden Race—Wyndale and Tahurangi. Rosebank Hack Hurdles —Luna Lux (or Silent Bill). Oloseburn Hack Handicap—Amyril, Hark Forrard and Ebeum. Rangitikei Hunt Cup Steeples —Avro, No Humbug and Hinatore. Otairi Ladies’ Braclet —Black Man, Santoft, and War Eagle (or No Humbug). Springrove Farewell Hack Handicap —Arena. Lady Ina and Lapel. Acceptances are as follows:
