DAMAGES CLAIMED.

Action Arises Over Triple Collision. S.M. HEARS EVIDENCE. The hearing of the claim for damages arising out of a collision between a tramway bus and two private cars was continued in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr 11. A. Young, S.M., this morning. The bus, travelling along Oxford Terrace, first collided with a car and then went on to run into a parked car. The case had been adjourned from last week. Seeking £156 14s 5d damages, made up of £Bl 14s 5d general and £~5 special damages, A. J. Archbold, a garage proprietor, of Christchurch, the owner of the stationary car, proceeded against A. E. Grubb, of Christchurch, the bus driver, and J. Slack, of Christchurch, driver of the moving car. Plaintiff alleged that both defendants had been negligent. Mr Cavell appeared for Archbald. Mr Sim for Grubb and Mr Tracy for Slack.

Reginald Ashley, an ex-postman, called by Mr Sim, said that the bus was not travelling at more than twenty miles an hour. Witness saw a car by the kerb on the left-hand side of the road. The car turned towards the centre of the road, giving no warning. Witness watched the car to see what was going to happen. The bus kept straight on, and then swerved out, going further as the car came out. The bus could not have gone behind the car, and the collisions were unavoidable.

Jack Slack, a pastry-cook, and driver of the moving car, said he kept a proper look-out, but did not see the bus. He did not see the bus until it was right on top of him.
