L)ownes, a European resident at Naini Tal, and his daughter were seriously injured, and his ayah and her husband were killed when his Pathan cook ran amok with a revolver. The Pathan fell in love with the ayah. Her husband complained to Mr Downes, who remonstrated with the cook. The cook, in the morning, appeared with a pistol and fired pointblank at Mr Downes and the daughter. He then went to the ayah’s quarters where he shot her and her husband dead and then shot himself. Mr Downes may live, but the daughter’s life is despaired of.
