TEMPLETON NOTES.
Parents Celebrate Son’s Majority.
A* pleasant time was spent on Tuesday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs L. Alsop, Queen Street, Templeton, when they entertained a number of friends on the occasion of the twentyfirst birthday of their son, William. The dining room was decorated with coloured streamers. The evening was spent in games, competitions and musical items. Community singing was led by Mr C. Koskella, who was also M.C. for the evening. Speeches were made by Messrs S. Palmer, C. Hamilton. C. Koskella and L. Alsop, and Mrs Alsop presented the guest of honour with the customary key. The birthday cake, which had been beautifully decorated by Mrs W. Jones, was cut by the guest of honour. Musical items were given by Messrs R. Edwards, C. Koskella. A. Alsop, D. Edwards and S. Palmer.
Those present were:—Mesdames A. Alsop, Chatterton, Allen, Simpson and L Alsop: Misses Joan Sonne, Peggy Kissel, .Marjorie Simpson and Ruby Alsop. Messrs R. Edwards. C. Hamilton, M. Chapman, H. H. Chatterton, W. A. Aldersby. J. Hughes. W. Allen, F. Playle, S. Palmer. J. Smythe, A. Alsop, W. Alsop, G. Watson and H. Kissel. Mothers* Union Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Templeton branch of the Mothers’ Union was held in the library on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs H. Jones presided. It was decided to make the next meeting a social afternoon. The branch also decided to hold a “Bring and Buy” afternoon on Wednesday, August 1, in aid of the church funds. Those present wore:—Mesdames Henshaw, Falconer, Murphy, Barnes. Sonne. Simpson, Bailey, Child, Johnston and Davison. Afternoon tea was served, by the hostesses. Women’s Institute. The monthly meeting of the Templeton Women’s Institute was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Mrs H. B. Kissel presiding. Three new members were welcomed. Invitations were accepted for the birthdays of the Springston and Hornby Institutes. A lecture on “Honey and its Uses” was given by Mrs AVendelkin, Christchurch. The competition for the best collection of members’ handwork was won by Mrs B. Curragh, with Mrs V. Curragh second. Mrs F. Cook tijas the winner of an amusing game. It was decided that the institute colours be royal blue and gold. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Falconer, Butt and Beunett.
