TAX BURDEN.

Proves Embarrassment to Sport. (Special to the ** Star.”) WELLINGTON. July 18 “ Once again it has to be recorded that the sperts of trotting and racing are being seriously hampered by the excessive burden of taxation imposed.” states the president of the Wellington Trotting Club (Mr J. E. August) in his annual report to members. “ This severe tax is undoubtedly hampering the development of all clubs in driving owners from the sport through the necessary cut in stakes, and is draining the resources of the investing public. The club's stewards are of the opinion that the time has now arrived when an organised effort should be made by sporting authorities to obtain permanent relief from the embarrassment of excessive taxation.”
