COMIC OPERA.
The comic opera, “ Les Cloches de C-orneville ” (Planquette), was presented to another enthusiastic audience at the St James' Theatre last night by the Christchurch Operatic Society. The artists were applauded warmly not only after the acts, but at intervals right throughout the show. The piece is not an easy one, and the society is to be congratulated on making such an outstanding success of the pioduction. The story is pleasing, introducing a number of interesting characters, all of which are well portrayed by the principal artists. A feature of the performance is the excellent singing by Annas Gale, Kathleen Chappie, ”Clive liindle and James Shaw. The staging, settings and chorus work are also well done, and complete an excellent show. The opera will be repeated to-night and to-morrow’ right, and a matinee performance will be given to-morrow afternoon. Box plans at the D.I U.
