THE COMPETITIONS.

First Evening Concert To-morrow Night. The Christchurch Competitions will commence to-morrow at the Civic Theatre and the Caledonian Hall. The first evening- concert will be held in the Civic Theatre. Owing to the lengthy program me, all evening sessions will begin at 7.30. This is the twentyfourth annual festival of the society. During an active lifetime the competitions have led to the discovery of much real talent, and have paved the way for many individual successes in elocution and musical circles. This year the entries are almost equal to the highest figures vet recorded, and are over two hundred'in excess of last year’s. Christchurch people appreciate the work the society is doing in bringing together some of the best Canterbury talent to compete against the best from other provinces, and there is little doubt that the 1934 series will be a successful one.
