RAINED ALL DAY, The first day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting was spoiled by rain, which fell all day. The track was very heavy when racing began and was a sea of mud when the fourth event was decided. The attendance was good and the totalisator turnover was £11,817, as against £14,298 for the corresponding day last year. * * * * Journey’s End was sent out favourite for the Bayfield Handicap at Forbury, but failed badly in heavy ground. He is capable of winning a race in the near future under good conditions. AN HONEST MARE. Sister Mary is a very honest mare and can handle any kind of going. If the track is firm she will go a big race to-morrow. * * * * Walter Wrack gained many friends by his display in the St Clair Handicap at Forbury yesterday and will have plenty of support when he steps Out to-morrow. * * * 4c Compass is in good shape and he is at home on any kind of footing. He is due to win in the near future. He acted well at Forbury yesterday. * ❖ * * Dundee did not appreciate the heavy ground on the first day at Forbury and made two bad breaks during the con test for the Domain Handicap. If the going is good to-morrow he may make amends. FOR HEAVY GOING. Should the going be heavy to-morrow Ronald Derby may be in the dividend J area again. He won well on the first day at Forbury. * * * * Blue Mountain Queen was a big j disappointment in both races at For- j bury and evidently is not at her bes-t. She may do better on a dry track. * * * * Golden Direct should go close to winning a mile race at Forbury tomorrow. * * * * Agile hung on gamely for a mile and a quarter at Forbury on Thursday, but the mud settled his chance. He may bob up to-morrow. 3* * * *C Avernus romped home in the Ritchie Memorial Handicap at Dunedin. He was the cleverest of the field in heavy going. WORTHY QUEEN’S EFFORT. Worthv Queen trotted a great race among the pacers in the Ritchie Memorial Handicap at Forbury and on a drv course she will beat them. * * * Ayrmont Chimes paced two very solid races at Forbury on Thursday to record two seconds. He is in line for an early win. Black Jester paced a level race to finish fifth in the Renown Handicap at Forbury on Thursday, and when he strikes a good track he may upset calculations. WONDERFUL RECEPTION. Walla Walla was accorded a wonderful reception when he was paraded in the enclosure at Forbury yesterday, lie looks well, but has contracted a slight cold. Ilis owner, Mr L. S. Martin, does not think it will impair him for his match with Harold Logan over one mile at Forbury to-morrow. CUT TENDON. During the contest for the Ritchie Memorial Handicap Lilian Bond cut a tendon verrv badly. ac * * * Waress is a really good mare over any distance and in any kind of going She will be hard to beat to-morrew at Forbury. INJURED DRIVERS. t The Auckland trotting trainer H. Kinnimont who had a leg badly fractured a year ago when working Billy Franz at Pukekohe, is still unable to resume duty. He was a spectator at the Northland meeting, with his injured leg still in iron supports, and is still an outdoor patient at the Auckland Hospital. R. A. M’Millan, the Tamahere trainer-driver, who broke a leg at Thames when Lady Amanda fell in the Turua Bracelet, was last week removed to the Waikato Hospital. He will be out of the sulky for the remainder of the season.
