KAIKOURA TROTS.

Amalgamation IVith Cheviot Suggested. A meeting of the general committee of the Kaikoura Tnotting Club was held m the Masonic Hall, Kaikoura, on Wednesday evening: present: Messrs S. Bennetts (president), J. J. Mackle. T. G. Drabble, W. J. Harnett, T. R. Alexander. C. Clark and the secretary (Mr W. Perrin). A letter was received from the Cheviot Trotting Club suggesting that tho Kaikoura Club give consideration to the question of amalgamation of the two clubs. After discussion it was agreed to defer the letter to the annual meeting. The date of the club’s annual meeting to be held in June was left to the The president reported that the meeting held recently had resulted in a substantial financial loss. The day had been fine, with good fields, but the investments on the machine were small. It would appear from the club’s experience over the past three years to be difficult to hold a successful meeting under present conditions and the future prospects were not bright. It was his opinion that racing was gradually being centralised and country clubs wers under a big handicap, especiallv those centres without railway connection. The club had gone to great expense in arranging transport for horses, hut despite this he thought that without j such arrangements it would not be possible to attract the horses from Canterbury and elsewhere. Nominations and acceptances were also drastically reduced and everything possible had been done to encourage the sport. TI! OT T INC PTX TU R US. May 3, s—Forbury Park T.C. May s—Cambridge T.C.
