WOOLLEN MILLS FIRE.
£7OO Damage Done at Kaiapoi. Fire gutted the teazle shed, and the workroom where the teazle frames are made, at the Kaiapoi Woollen Company’s mills, Ranfurly Street, Kaiapoi, late last evening, damage estimated at between £6OO and £7OO being done. The fire was discovered at 10.20 p.m. and lcoal fire brigade was quickly on the scene. The fire was soon under control, but the contents of the shed were lost. Besides the teazle frames, which’burnt like matchwood, there was a quantity of valuable wool which is used for fine worsted work stored in one corner, and this was considerably damaged. The shed was covered by the general policy held by the company with Lloyd’s office. The cause of the outbreak is a mystery, as there was no electric light or anything that could possibly cause a fire in the building. The building, an old wooden one with an iron roof, is situated at the northernmost part of the mill and is only a short distance from the sorting shed. The main buildings are situated some thirty feet away.
