Miss Dorothy Kerr, Belmont, Cave, is visiting Christchurch. Mrs L. Tinker, Mount Somers, is spending a holiday at Dunedin. Miss Judith Gough, Christchurch, is spepding a holiday in Auckland. Mrs J. Gorrie, Mount Somers, has returned home after a holiday spent in Christchurch. Miss Mary Menzies, Victoria Street, will leave to-morrow evening to spend a holiday in the North Island. Mrs 11. Morgan, Mount Somers, has returned from a holiday spent at Oamaru. Mr and Mrs H. D. Andrews, Armagh Street, have returned from a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mrs Arthur Poulton, Gloucester Street, will leave next week on a visit to Pahiatua. Mr and Mrs R. W. Britton and Miss Sylvia Britton have returned to Christchurch from a visit to Australia. Mrs G. A. Bland, Woolmers, Mount Somers, has returned from a holiday spent with her mother, Mrs Dunbar, liighfield, Waiau. Mr and Mrs R. E. Adair have returned from a motor tour of the North Island. They will leave to-morrow for their home, Silverstream, Mayfield, Miss M. A. Trent was last night elected president of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women. Mrs W. G. Roberts, president for the past two years, did not seek reelection. Mr and Mts K. G. Lucas, Stoke, Nelson, will arrive in Christchurch by car on Sunday evening and will stay at “ The Lodge,” Cashel Street. Mrs Annie I. Fraer was last night elected a life member of the Christ church branch of the National Council of Women, on the motion of Mrs R. M’Laren, seconded by Miss E. Cardale. Mrs W. G. Roberts, the retiring president, in paying a tribute to Mrs Fraer’s services, recalled that she had been branch and national president of the council. Miss Betty Seth-Smith, who has been staying with her aunt, Mrs Charles Matson, Wairarapa Terrace, left on Wednesday night on the first stage of her return journey to her home in Cobham, Surrey, England. She will travel via Vancouver.

Mrs Colin Marshall, Timaru, has returned from a visit to her mother, Mrs Percy Cox, Christchurch. Mrs Hansell, Wellington, who was the guest of Mrs Davies, Fairlie, is now staying with her father, Archbishop Julius, Cashmere Hills. Miss Elizabeth Harris, Durham Street, who has been staying with Mrs Keith de Castro, is now the guest of Mrs Gerald Mathias, Cave. Mrs Reginald Morgan and her mother, Mrs Page, Cashmere Hills, are spending a holiday at Godley House, Diamond Harbour. Mrs Leyden Baker and family, Cashmere Hills, are spending the school holidays at their cottage at Motunau Island. Mrs Leslie Dougall and her daughter, Cracroft Terrace, Cashmere Hills, are spending a holiday with relatives in the country. Nurse E. A. Counsel, Rolleston Street, has returned to Christchurch after spending several weeks with friends in Herne Bay, Auckland. Misses Joan Rudkin, Glandovey Road, and Joyce Ell, Spreydon, left last evening on a visit to New Plymouth. Mr and Mrs F. W. Freeman, “ Jesmond,” Cashmere Hills, and Mr and Mrs R. T. Tosswill, Merivale, are spending a few days at the Lodge, Hanmer Springs. Miss Lucille Lisle, the young Wellington actress, made a good recovery from the operation which she underwent some months ago, and she returned in due course to her part in “ The Late Christopher Bean,” which is still having a great run at St James’ Theatre, London, with Sir C. Hardwicke and Edith Evans playing the leads* Miss Lisle has a minor part of one of the two daughters of the Welsh doctor, but she plays it with understanding and marked charm. The Repertory Players’ next Sunday night production will be a comedy by Joan Temple, entitled “ Flowery Walk.” In this Miss Lucille Lisle has a leading part, and others to appear by courtesy of their respective managements will be Misses Diana Hamilton, Hilary Pritchard and Amy Veness; Messrs Ronald Ward, Basil Radford and James Raglan.
