CRICKET AND TENNIS.

Old Boys’ Day Held at St Andrew’s. More than a hundred St Andrew’s College old boys gathered at the school on Saturday afternoon to take part in a sports tournament, which it is proposed to hold annually in future. Cricket and tennis matches were played, but swimming sports had to be abandoned on account of the cold. Oid boys’ cricket teams played the school first and second elevens and town old boys played those from the country. The tennis was played on private courts in Norman’s Road. A 440yds relay race between old boys and school resulted: Old Boys (R. B. Hamilton, V, H. Johnstone, W. D. Redpath and E. P. Newburgh) 1, School (W. K. Dougall, S. J. Gray, D. L. Jones and H. Bandy) 2. A progressive doubles tennis tournament was won by L. J. Broughton. Cricket Matches. Old Boys batted first in the match against the School first eleven and made 108, beating School by 13 runs. , For Old Boys, Bowbyes (33) and Syrnes , (24) batted well, and for School Jones (44) and Gray (20) were in form, i The School second eleven defeated I Old Boys by 47 runs, scoring 100 runs ( (Barry 22, Simpson retired 22, FajrI bairn retired 20). For Old Boys, I Twyneham made 21 not out and Hamii- \ ton made 11. Country beat Town Old Boys by 72 j runs, scoring 167 (White retired 43. * Macartney 26, Coop retired 28, Jame!son 24). The best scorers for Town were Fisher 18, Talbot 13, Dunnet 13, Wilson 11. During the afternoon those present were entertained at afternoon tea by j the head master (Mr A. K. Anderson) I and Mrs Anderson. He expressed the I hope that with the continuance of •‘he I tournaments from year to year they i would become an important feature of old boys’ activities.
