NURSING POSITIONS

Report to the Hospital Board. A report dealing with positions on the nursing staff was received from the Hospital Committee at this morning’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The report stated that the Ladv Superintendent had notified that Staff Nurses Milmine, Rutherford, Jeffries. Robertson, Gillies and Cossgrove had completed their training. Nurse Laing desired to leave on April 15, and Nurse A. Pascoe, who was on leave in India, had been given an extension of six months. The resignation of Miss Gooding, matron of the Lyttelton Maternitv Hospital, had been received; also that of Miss Blomquist, matron of the Lincoln Hospital. Kaikoura Appointment. It was recommended that Sister Freeman, who had returned from England and had had considerable experience abroad, should be appointed matron of the Kaikoura Hospital, and that Miss Houston be appointed matron of the Lyttelton Maternity Hospital. Temporarily, a relieving officer was being sent to Lincoln Hospital. The recommendations were adopted. The Lady Superintendent expressed her regret at the serious illness of Sister Green, matron of the Oxford Hospital, and Sister Butterworth, who had been night sister in charge of the nurses’ home. A relieving nurse had been sent to Oxford, and Miss Field, a Christchurch trained nurse, had been appointed to temporarily relieve Sister Butterworth. The report also expressed regret at the death of Nurse Chick, a third-year trainee at the hospital, who had died on March 1. A letter of condolence had been sent to her relatives.
