STOOD IN THE RAIN.
Farmers Jubilant at End of Drought. MARLBOROUGH DOWNPOUR. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, March 28. “ The prayer of the righteous availeth much,” says the Minister of Lands (the lion E. A. Ransom) in a telegram congratulating Marlborough on the breaking of the four-year drought. A splendid rain, averaging nearly an inch and a half, fell all day yesterday, and will do an immense amount of good relieving immediate anxieties Seddon, in the heart of the worst of the drought area, experienced 13 inches. Residents in the vicinity stood out in the downpour, allowing water to saturate their clothing. Ward had 196 points, I-lillersden 245 points and Blenheim 142 points. Farmers all over the district are much heartened. The weather has now cleared but the skies are still rather overcast and there seems a prospect of further rain.
