Electric Power.
Amalgamation of Schemes Sought. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, March 20. T?EADJUSTMENT of North and South Islarid electric power supply accounts so as to run the Mangahao, Waikaremoana and Lake Coleridge schemes through one account is desired by the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board. Such readjustment is held by the board to have the effect of reducing charges for supply in the North Island. The secretary, Mr H. H. Wylie, informed the board to-day that the Mangahao scheme had an accumulated loss of about £500,000, whereas the Coleridge scheme showed an accumulated profit of approximately £200,000. He had been informed by the chief electrical engineer of the Public Works Department, Mr F. T. M. Kissel, that an amendment was to be submitted to Parliament to make a general amalgamation of the schemes. Mr S. Ashcroft said the board could look for no reduction in accounts till the losses on Mangahao and Waikaremoana were made up. The board finally decided that the matter should be taken up by the secretary with the Minister of Public Works.
