SHOOTING FATALITY.

Youth Dies on Way to Hospital. (Special to the "Star.*') KAIKOURA, February 22. Patrick Ronald Wallace, aged seventeen years, ron of Mr G. C. Wallace, dentist, Kaikoura, died while being conveyed to the Kaikoura Hospital tonight. Deceased was out rabbit-shoot-ing with his brother and sister at the Kowhai River, a mile and a half south of Kaikoura. The party separated and later, Wallace’s sister fou id him lying on the ground with a bullet wound in the left temple. He was tarried to the car, which they had with them, and a start was made on che journey back to the township, but the youth died on the way. An inquest will be held at 10.30 to-morrow.

(SDeclal to the “Star.”) KAIKOURA, February 23. An inquest into the death of Patrick Ronald Wallace, seventeen years of age, the son of Mr E. C. Wallace, dentist, of Kaikoura, who died on his way to the Kaikoura Hospital at 7.30 p.m. on February 22, as the result of a .22 bullet wound in the left temple, was held to-day at the Kaikoura Courthouse, before Mr James Davidson, District Coroner.Evidence was given by the brother and sister of Wallace, who were with the youth rabbit-shooting, and had separated. They brought the deceased The medical evidence led to the conclusion that the wound was self-inflict-ed, and a verdict was returned accordingly.

Gash on Head.

Last evening, a boy named Joseph Cooke, of 433, Wilson’s Road, met with an accident at Witch’s Hill, near the Rapaki road. He was carried down the hill on a bicycle, and then conveyed to the Public Hospital by the St John Ambulance. He was found to be suffering from a deep gash on he head, and was treated as an outpatient and discharged.
