WAREHOUSE OPENED.

Gordon and Gotch Celebrate. The spirit of co-operation and fellowship existing between the staffs of the various branches of Gordon and Gotch (Australasia), Ltd., in the Dominion, was stressed by speakers at the staff dinner and social, held at the Frascati last evening to celebrate the opening of the firm’s new Christchurch warehouse in Lichfield Street. Besides members of the local staff and their wives there w'ere present at the function representatives of the firm ill other cities, including Messrs W. E. Jackson, manager for New Zealand, P. Hockley, manager for the South Island, R. A. Loe, Auckland manager, A. T. Jensen, Dunedin manager, and P. •E. Staple, of the Wellington staff. Altogether there were fifty-nine present. After the speakers had referred to the firm and wished its new enterprise success, the guests adjourned to listen to a programme of musical and- vocal items. Community singing was led by Mr Hockley and was followed by dancing old and new. The toast of the firm was proposed by Mr G. Macdonald and replied to by Mr Jackson. Other toasts were “ Success to the Christchurch Warehouse,” Mr Loe (responded to by Mr Hockley); “ Branch Houses and Gordon House, London,” Mr D. M. Fraser (Mr Jensen); “ The Contractors,” Mr J. A. Lynch (Mr J. Taylor); "Staff Fellowship,” Mr E. D. Johnson (Mr G. S. Ellis). The musical programme was as follows: Pianoforte solo, “ Marilyn,” Miss M. Dale; songs, "I Did Not Know,” “ Serenata," Mr G. T. Ritchie; character sketch. "Aunt Huldy,” Miss M. G rigor; duet, "The Garden of Your Heart, ’ Miss D. Wade and Mr D. M’Gill; songs, "Why Shouldn’t?” "Drat ’em I” Mr P. Hockley; pianoforte solo, •Marche Militaire,” Mr E. Neame; songs, "Here’s to Love,” *■ a Night of Romance,” Miss D. Wade; songs, " WhyDo I Love You?” "If I Could But Express in Song,” Mr D. M’Gill; elocutionary number, Mr C. S. Brown.
