Too Many Complaints.

Dear Sir, —Some of the “ Star’s ** correspondents writing recently appear to be full of complaints. “ Non Clannish ” is very peeved. Being a staunch supporter of the railways, and knowing in his own little heart that he has played a big part in keeping the employees in good and permanent jobs, he hies himself, wife, kiddies and all, to the railway station, bent on a cheap and enjoyable picnic. But, lo! The heavy hand of a clannish porter smote him heavy and with the words ringing in his ears “ four times as much as that, please,” he trudges home despondently, but with the happy thought in his mind that the butchers’ picnic is not far distant. I suggest that he should write to the Railway Board demanding that drivers and firemen, when driving the picnic train, should pay half fare and guards at least a third. “ Getting Jumpy ” has a terrible grievance, but has a little praise for the Canterbury Automobile Association for doing their good deed, i.e., attempting to put the brake on the horn. Poor “Jumpy” is very worried. He lies awake for hours, and I believe it is not insomnia. No, sir, it’s the naughty motorists, thousands of them—and after doing a hard day’s work, too. Well, he cannot be a relief worker. He even compares Christchurch to Paris. There is not much difference.—l am. etc., J-E.
