BACK TO CHILDHOOD.

Hornby Dance a Great Success. PLUNKET FUNDS BENEFIT. The “Back to Childhood” dance held in the Orange Hall, Hornby, on Tuesday evening, was the first public gathering organised by the newly-formed committee of the Hornby sub-branch of the Plunket Society and it was an outstanding success. The guests of honour, Dr and Mrs F. D. Helmore, were welcomed by the president, Mrs W. Huffadine. Over seventy couples danced to the music of Fred Smith’s Band. The hall was brightly decorated with Chinese lanterns, coloured streamers and native greenery. A dainty supper was served in the supperroom, where the tables were attractivelv decorated with vases of brilliant flowers. A varied programme of dances had been arranged. A large number of patrons attended in juvenile costumes, the novelty of the attire causing much amusement. The judges of the fancy costumes were Mrs F. W. Helmore, Mrs Crawford, Messrs Gunderson and Roberts. Prizes were awarded to Mrs Kingston (married ladies). Miss Maysie Still and Miss Bett} 1 - Tolerton (best ladies’ costume), and Mr Les Hamilton (best man’s costume. The winners of the prizes for the lucky spot dances were Mr and Mrs VV. Woodgate, and Miss Dulcie Bigham and partner. The prize for the lucky number snowball dance was won by Miss Kathleen Oldfield. The winner of the competition was Master Thomas Crawford (Yaldhurst).

The committee responsible for the arrangements comprised:—Mesdames W. Huffadine (president). A. Head and .T. Smalley (vice-presidents), C. Woodham (secretary), J. Gunderson, J. Manson, Thomas, D. Roberts, S. H. Rowe and J. G. Marsden, assisted by Mesdames J. R. Davis and C. Cox.
