NELSON BIRD-LOVER.
The first woman to be made president the Royal Australasian Ornithologists’ Union, which appointment she held for the year 1933, was Mrs Perrine Moncrieff, of Nelson. Mrs Moncrieff is the author of “ New Zealand Birds and How to Identify Them ”, which is used as a text-book in the schools. She is also a vice-president of the New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society, and has also held the following appointments in Nelson: President of the Nelson Philosophical Society, chairman of the Auckland Point School, and vicepresident of the Nelson Institute. She was also the first president of the New Zealand Alpine and Rock Garden Society, and first Commissioner of Girl Guides for Nelson Province. She has also held office on several committees for the relief of unemployment in Nelson, and is at present secretary of the Women's Unemployment Fund.
