STORES ALL ASHORE.
Jacob Ruppert Clear of Her Cargo at Last. United Press Assn.— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, February 3. A report from the Byrd expedition states that the difficult and dangerous work of unloading the winter supplies from the Jacob Ruppert and transporting them to Little America has been virtually completed, and as soon as the vessel loads 250 tons of coal from the Bear of Oakland she will start on the return trip to New Zealand, for the winter. t Some 450 tons of stpres and scientific equipment have been unloaded. All that remains consists of scattered odds and ends and personal gear. For the first time in a fortnight the Jacob Ruppert appears to have found a stable mooring, although the bay ice is still disintergrating. The Bear has been moored alongside the Jacob Ruppert, and will now moor against the ice to unload the remaining 75 tons of supplies she brought. Tractors and dog teams are still busy moving supplies from relay points to the high barrier near Little America, working day and night shifts. The weather continues astonishingly calm, but the thermometer is now drop- . ping steadily. The last three nights the shifts worked in temperatures of from ten degrees to fifteen degrees below zero, and the sky, which for days has been clear, is now constantly overcast and gloomy. Last night a number of men were slightly frostbitten.
