Meeting of Canterbury Centre. INTERPROVINCIAL CONTEST. A meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, Mr J. K. Moloney presiding. There were also present: Messrs L. H. Hill. L. G. Willis, R, Beattie, E. Todd, E. H. Cross, J. H. Murphy, J. A. Gasson and O. Sanderson. The Little River Sports Club was granted permission to hold a meeting on Boxing Day. In connection with the interprovincial contest with Wellington to be held on January 20, it was reported that an application had been made for the use of the St Andrew’s College grounds. Mr Beattie recommended that the following programme be submitted for the approval of the Wellington Centre:— 100yds, 220yds, 440yds. S'SOyds. one mile. 120yds hurdles, 440yds hurdles, high jump, long jump, pole vault, throwing the javelin, throwing the discus, relay (four distances of 110yds). Handicap events—looyds, 220yds, SSOyds, one mile, 220yds hurdles, putting the shot, 100yds junior (under nineteen), 75yds (women), 300yds (women). Mr Beattie suggested that the entry fee for handicap events be Is. and that the trophies be £1 10s and 10s. For the junior events, field events and women’s events be recommended that the trophies he to the value of £1 Is and 10s. Mr Beattie’s recommendations were adopted. Inter-Club Competitions.

January 27, St Andrew’s College Ground (sections as for January 13) Events, throwing the discus, 220yds, three miles, hop, step and jump, 440yds hurdles, throwing the hammer, 100yds women. 880yds, pole vault, one mile walk, 220yds hurdles; C grade—Events, 220yds, 880yds and hop, step and jump. February 10 (Lancaster Park) Section T—Sumner, Old Boys. Sydenham, Celtic, New Brighton. Section IT—Canterbury, Technical. University, Kaiapoi, Presbyterian, Ranglora. Events—Same as January 13. February 24 (sections the same as February 10—Events, the same as January 27. AUSTRALIANS’ VISIT. Explanation Made by N.Z. Association. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 14. Referring to a cable to-day concerning the proposed visit of the Australian athletes, Metcalfe, Hampson and Barwick, to the Dominion, Mr L. A. Tracey, secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association,, stated: “We must., as the national body, communicate with the national body, which is the Amateur Athletic Union of Australia. We have done that, and received an official reply giving consent for the tour, and an extension of the rule restricting tours to twenty-one days.” As to whether the Amateur Athletic Union of Australia had consulted the New South Wales Association, that was a matter, Mr Tracey added, which had nothing to do with the X.Z.A.A.A.
