APPEAL RENEWED.
Christmas Carnival for Children. Up till now the fund in aid of a Christmas carnival for the young children of relief workers has not met with the support that the cause deserves. That was the statement oi the Mayo., Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., when he renewed his appeal this morning. The object is to raise money to hold a big carnival at Linwood Park on December 16. There arc to be sports and entertainments, refreshments and ice-cream, and it is hoped that it will be possible to distribute toys to all children up to the age of twelve years. It is estimated that about 6000 children should be in attendance. Arrangements are in the hands of a combined committee, representing the Women's Auxiliary of the St John Ambulance Association and the Relief Workers’ Carnival Committee. An endeavour is being made to raise funds by the selling of Id tickets in books of 50, which are on sale in any number at the City Council offices. Mr Sullivan said this morning that progress was not. so satisfactory as could be wished, and if tickets die not sell more rapidly during the coming week some of the children might have to go without to>-s. “ I know,” said the Mayor, “ that will not be the wish of anyone in Christchurch. a city which has been so very generous all through the depression.” lie renewed his appeal to the public to call at the council offices and buy tickets, or to send donations in by other means.
