COUNCIL’S LIABILITY.
Sequel to Recent Accident in City. A recent collision involving a number of Girl Guides had its sequel at a meeting of the City Council last evening when the assessment of damages came up for consideration. The report of the Works Committee stated that a Works Department truck on loan to the Reserves Department, collided with a motor truck owned by the Economic Express Co. and having as passengers a number of Girl Guides. A report had been submitted stating that the weight of available evidence would result in the council being required to meet a claim for damages. It was reported to the committee that the Reserves Committee had authorised Mr Poison, manager of the M.E.D. Garage, to negotiate with the solicitor for the company with a view to effecting a reasonable settlement to the matter, and the Works Committee had authorised the chairman to confer with the chairman of . the Reserves Committee to that end. The report was adopted.
