EXHIBITION OF WORK.

Members of Home Service Girls’ Club. The Home Service Girls’ Club, which is a branch of the Home Service Association. held its annual exhibition of cookery, fancy work and knitting in St Luke's Schoolroom last evening. The club, for which Mrs H. C. Hewland is secretary, lias for its object the instruction of unemployed girls in the arts of dressmaking, cooking, fancy work and first aid. and to keep them pleasantly occupied during the evenings meetings are held once a week in St Luke's Schoolroom, where there is always an enthusiastic attendance. The girls not only receive instruction front the various demonstrators, but in time are able to help one another with their individual occupations. Instruction in dressmaking is given by Miss M. Carrig, first aid by Mrs Cordy from the St John Ambulance Association, and cooking by teachers from the Normal School. The quality of the work last evening was of a high standard. and gave evidence of originality and skill, being a credit to the instructors as -well as to the girls themselves. Money received for work sold will go towards the club’s funds: The judges for the work displayed were:—Cooking, Miss R. Gilmour; handwork, Mrs W. Tait and Miss R. Glimour; and first aid work. Miss F. L. Cooper. Items were given during the evening by Misses Stout (piano solo). Diavis Gurdler (violin solo) and Doris Bland (tap dance). The Mayoress, Mrs D. G. Sullivan, who was accompanied by Mrs J. S. Neville, presented the prizes to the following:—Cookery Olive Berry 1, Fancy work—Margaret Ludmann 1. Iris Ferguson 2. Knitting—Eileen Cashmore. St John Ambulance bandaging competition—Olive Berry 1, Iris Ferguson 2, Mavis Davison h c. Stalls for the sale of flowers and the work of the girls were arranged about the room, those in charge being:— Flowers. Misses E. Box and Sadie Ilay; fancy goods. Miss A. Renton: sweets. Misses M. Davidson and T. Cockburn; cakes. Misses Mavis Sheehan and Mavis Gurdler.
