Exceptional Heat in Last Few Days. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, January 12. Invercargill, with a record of 220 hours of sunshine for December, looks like establishing a new record for the first month of the new year. Unbroken sunshine has been the order for several days past, with exceptional heat. The thermometer registered 85 degrees in the shade yesterday, which was not only the highest reading this summer, but is possibly the highest reading recorded in Invercargill. In January, 1922, 84 degrees was reached, and readings of 82 degrees have been fairly frequent. Invercargill’s previous hottest day this summer was on December 26, the reading being 80.5 degrees. Yesterday the maximum point was reached in the early afternoon. The solar heat yesterday reached 137 degrees, the highest this year, though in former years 142 degrees had been reached.
