DISABLED SOLDIERS.
Committee to Inspect Rabbit Farms. The Canterbury Disabled Soldiers’ Civil Re-establishment Committee met this morning, Mr H. Holland, M.P., presiding. Others present were: Messrs C. J. Ronaldson, E. F. Willcox, A. 11. Parfitt, H. Collins, F. M. Robson and W. E. Leadley (secretary). It was decided to make an inspection of Angora rabbit farms, with a view to finding out what possibilities this occupation offered for disabled men. Among the men who were dismissed from the Addington workshops this week were two pensioners. It was decided to communicate with the Commissioner of Pensions, pointing out that their dismissal would simply mean that they would come on to the Pensions Department, and would receive money from the Government for which they w’ould be doing no work. Mr Leadley reported that he had interviewed the postmaster at Christchurch regarding the possibility of giving disabled men light employment as time advisers in the telephone exchange. The postmaster had advised that the Chief Postmaster, Wellington, should be approached.
