STONE IMPLEMENTS.
Collection Presented to Museum. An interesting collection of flint and other stone implements and flakes from Tasmania and similar specimens from the Rakaia and Waitaki districts in Canterbury, has been presented to the Canterbury Museum by Mr 11. S. M'Cully, of Timaru, who has made a special study of primitive stone implements. Mr M’Cully is of the opinion that the specimens from Tasmania and Canterbury indicate a similarity in form, design and intention. Others who have made a study of such articles are, however, of the opinion that the similarity in form and design is due to similarity in the materials and that it is merely accidental. Other acquisitions by the Museum include two pieces of pottery from Cyprus, made in 900 and 600 8.C., which have been presented by Mrs Edward Harris, of Christchurch, and a number of New Zealand fossils and also specimens of shells, mostly from the Pacific Islands, presented by Mr Hugh Bakewell.
