WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

Canterbury Federation Meets at Geraldine. Mrs L. E. Williams (president) was in the chair at a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes held at Geraldine. Many branches were represented. A suggestion was received from Hari Hari (Westland) that prizes for institute competition should be in the form of a cup and saucer bearing the institute’s monogram and its adoption was recommended to the Dominion Executive. On inquiry from Prebbleton as to formation of a branch, it was agreed to send a voluntary organiser to Prebbleton and one also to Killinchy. The president made reference to the successful folk-dancing competition at Geraldine and eulogised the services of Mrs W. E. Cook, who was responsible for the organisation. The Hilton and Orari Institutes having tied for the Federation Cup it was decided to present a miniature cup to each. It was also agreed to present cups to last year’s winning teams. One guinea each was voted to the Geraldine Beautifying Association and to the Geraldine Band. Mrs W. E. Cook was appointed organiser for the official magazine. It was mentioned that there were 17,000 members of the institute. A vote of thanks was accorded Miss Spencer for the useful advice she had given. __
