FRAUD ALLEGATION.
Painter is Remanded on Two Charges. “ He’s here now, but the police have had some difficulty in getting in touch with him,” said Detective-Sergeant Young, when the question x>f bail arose for Henry John Carter, a painter, of Chester Street, who appeared this morning before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M. The accused was charged that on July 9, with intent to defraud, he obtained £3 from Keith James Nelson and £ls on July 13 from Peter Anderson Gardiner, by representing that it was necessary for them to enter into a bond of £lO with the Arbitration Court to obtain permanent employment as apprentice painters. It was alleged'by Detective-Sergeant Young that in one case the accused defrauded a boy of fifteen and his mother. The Magistrate allowed bail in the sum of £SO and one surety of £SO, and made it a condition that the accused report daily to the police.
