MONTHLY MEETING OF FREE KINDERGARTENS.

The monthly meeting of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association was held in the Y.AI.C.A. rooms on Wednesday, when Mrs H. T. J. Thacker presided. The following members were present:—Alesdames T. E. Taylor, K. Hadfield, Rodda, Jarden, Dunbier, Griffiths, Retallick, Small, Holloway, Hutchings, Calder, Ileywood, Williamson, Robinson, Hamlin, Powell, Bellamy, Coddington, Aliss Al’lllraith and the secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames J. R. Evans, Peverill, Aitken and Aliss L. V. Tabart.

A letter was received from the Education Department notifying the association that, under the provisions of the Finance Act, 1931, the capitation grant paid to the association would be reduced by 10 per cent from April 1. A letter from the Christchurch City Council intimated that permission had been granted to hold “ Daffodil Day ” on September 18. A plan of the proposed new kindergarten for Selwyh was shown to members.

The school reports for June were considered very satisfactory. Owing to the mild winter, there had so far been little sickness among the children. The roll numbers for the month were:— Sunbeam 45, Phillipstown 69, Sydenham 85, Selwyn 54, Richmond 50, Linwood 60, New Brighton 32. Voluntary contributions from the parents were received as follows:—Sunbeam £3 14s. Phil lipstown £1 11s, Sydenham £1 ss, Selwyn £1 16s Old, Richmond £1 4s 4id, Linwood £1 18s 3d, New Brighton £1 15s lOd. Visitors to kindergarten during the month were: ; —Alesdames Abbot (Auckland), Inkster, J. R. Evans, K. Hadfield, Dunbier, Thomas, Alisses Abbot, Seay, Stewart, Dawe, Barr and Lister.
