CATTLE PRICES SHOW GOOD RISE.

STORE LAMBS EASIER AT ADDINGTON TO-DAY. A very sharp riee wm recorded over the early stages of the fat cattle sale, but later there was no demand, and values receded to laat week's level. The rise over the whole sfle was fl to £1 is a head. Fat lambs were entered in ahorter numbers than for many weeks. They met a brisk sale at rates equal to those ruling- last w-eeK. There was a slight ly larger entry of store lambs. The price eased a little on last week's rates. X*at Lamb*. The entry oj fat lambs numbened 3900 compjLred lyitb 4450 last week. The quality of the offering was mixed, but there was a good proportion of large, well-grown lambs in the yarding. Most gt the entry came from within the province. but a substantial contingent was entered frojn the West Coast. The sale was a brisk one throughout, with butchers and export buyers operating freely at rates on a par with those ruling last week. Top price was 15* 10d. naid for nine lambs sold on aocpuut of J. The entry of store lambs was a little heavier than it was last week, and there was again a big variation in quality, though there were quite a few lines of open-woo lied lambs that would do well. The attendance of farmers was a large one. but their ideas of value had dropped during the week, the fact that there has not been as much rain as usual no doubt causing a little anxiety in respect to feed supplies. The result was that the marrket was back, lambs forward enough for the rape being from la to Is 6d a head cheaper. The smaller and more backward sorts did not appear to show the same easing, though values were definitely lower. The sale throughout was a fairly steady one at the amended prices, and a good clearance was made. Values were:— Good rape lambs 10s to lls 7d. Ordinary rape lambs 6s «d to 9s. However, the early promise was not fulfilled, and over the latter stag** there was a collapse which took values baclc to last week's level. There was again a full yarding of store sheep, the offering Including a H>t of drafts from outside the province. Over the opening stages of the sa*e the market was much the same as it last Wednesday. Top price for ewe* this season was recorded over the earlier stages, a run-out of a line of 46«* two-tooth Romneys from D'Urville Island selling at 21s 3d. Another line of similar sheep made up to 22* 6d. ana there were two other deals at over -Is. Pat Iheep. The entry of fat sheep was smaller than that of last week. The quality was very mixed, and contained some most unattractive pens. Ewes sold at rates on a par w'ith those ruling last week, but wethers were easier by a shilling a head. The lowest price paid in the fat sheep pens for mapy years was paid to-day. when 27 ewes changed hands at 9d a head.
