WHO WILL BE LABOUR CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR?

It is probable that towards the end of the present month the Labour Representation Committee will decide on its choice of candidate for the next Mayoral election. In Labour circles the opinion is said to be strongly held that Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., should be the candidate next May, but though he has been repeatedly urged to accept the nomination, he has not yet given a definite answer. It is understood that the present Mayor, the Rev J. K. Archer, has given an undertaking thathe will not seek the nomination if Mr Sullivan is willing to be the candidate, but in the event of Mr Sullivan not agreeing to accept, Mrs E. R. M’Combs may be an aspirant for the position. There is said to be a strong feeling in the Labour Representation Committee that Mr Archer has had a sufficiently long term as Mayor and that a new candidate should be put forward at the next election.
