ELIZABETH ANNE TAKES A WALK

SOME NOVELTIES FROM THE SHOPPING CENTRE. The shops are becoming very colourful with all the Christmas goods they are displaying. In one there is a large table covered with cretonne boxes and novelties. I noticed a notebook, with a gaily patterned cretonne cover, that had sections inside for orders for the ‘ Butcher,” the “ Greengrocer,” and others that we give orders to daily It had a small pencil attached, and would be the very thing to hang on a hook near the telephone. In another shop there were a number of attractive travelling accessories and picnic baskets. For anyone who is keen on week-end picnics there is noth ing so convenient as a picnic hamper that contains cutlery and dishes of all kinds. Another case that caught my eye was in leather, and just the size of an ordinary suit case. But when you are coming back from your holiday and you have far more things than you know what to do with, this particular case will expand to any size Most convenient, don’t you think? Another gadget that I saw was a rubber sponge and soap-holder. It is made to hang on to the end of any collapsible bath, the sort you use for baby, and it is useful, too, to hang at the end of an ordinary bath. Nothing to break about it, and, of course, it is a simple matter to keep it clean. WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE union. New Brighton Branch. At the annual meeting of the New Brighton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union the presi--1 dent, Mrs H. Hall, was in the chair. The annual meeting of the Riccarton W.C.T.U. was held recently. Officers’ and superintendents’ reports were received, and arrangements made for more aggressive work in different directions next year. It was reported that Mrs M’Lean was still unable to take up work in the Press and White Ribbon department, and the president, Mrs C. W. Barrell, continued to do this work. Arrangements were made for the cradle roll afternoon to be held at Mrs Sheate’s residence, Euston Street, next Tuesday. Members were much indebted to Mrs Russell, convener of the Social Committee. Mrs Gundy consented to superintend the Scientific Temperance Department, and Mrs Hartley Smith dispensed afternoon tea. Officers were elected as follow:—President, Mrs C. The cradle roll- superintendent was specially congratulated on having gained twen-ty-three members this year, the cradle roll number now being fifty-nine. The Y branch superintendent reported a good and increasing membership. The officers and superintendents were reelected, the only change being the appointment of Mrs Malcolm as superintendent of the scattered members’ department, in place of Miss Caverhill.
