SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Garden Party at Waikoku. Between seventy and eighty mothers spent an enjoyable afternoon on Friday at the residence of Mr and Mrs R. Macdonald, Greenpark, where a garden party was held in the grounds under the auspices of the Woodend Anglican Mothers’ Union. Visitors were present from the Rangiora, Kaiapoi and Sefton Unions. “500” Evening. Large bowls of beautiful pink azaleas, roses and many other spring flowers gave a lovely note of colour to the reception room at the Canterbury Women’s Club last night, when the members met for a “ 500 ” evening. Miss Menzies, who acted as hostess, wore a pretty frock of delph blue patterned in pink roses, with a scarf to tone. The serving of supper brought a pleasant evening to a close. Kitchen Evening. An enjoyable “ kitchen ** evening in honour of Miss Myrtle Restall and Mr Clarence Teague, whose marriage will take place next month, was given by Miss P. Teague and Mr B. Forsey at the residence of Mr and Mrs Teague, 172, Roker Street, Spreydon, on Saturday evening. Games and competitions were indulged in. The winners of the competitions were:—Misses Z. Crutch, M. Restall. B. Restall and Mr S. Wise. Among those present were:—Mr and Mrs F. A. Teague, Mr and Mrs C. J. Restall, Mr and Mrs H. Teague, Mr and Mrs F. Restall, Mr and Mrs S. Wise, Mr and Mrs E. Miller, Messrs Clarence Teague, Bill Forsey, Bill Shatford, Eric Shatford, Jack Gale, Keith Burtt, Robert Wallburton, Dick Restall, Harold Restall and Fred Wicks. Social Evening in Wools ton. A social evening, at which Mr and Mrs G. Parry were host and hpstess, was held in the Woolston Fire Station social room on Thursday. The function was in aid of the St Ann’s School funds. Competition winners were Mesdames C. White, M. M’Donough, and Messrs King and L. James. Mr P. Leahy, who was M.C., thanked Mr and Mrs Parry for the manner in which they had prepared the entertainment of those present. A Surprise Party. A surprise party arranged by Mrs Harold Rayner visited the home of Mr and Mrs William Roberts, Westholme Street, Papanui, on Saturday evening, the occasion being Mr and Mrs Roberts's wedding anniversary and the birthdays of Mrs Harry Bunny and Mrs Harold Rayner. The evening was spent in games and dancing, a happy time being enjoyed by all. A dainty supper was handed round. Those present were:—Mr and Mrs Harold Rayner, Mr and Mrs Harry Bunny, Mr and Mrs William Roberts, Mr and Mrs William Bateman, Mr and Mrs Joe Hill, Mr and Mrs Charlie Drake, Misses Pearl Grant, Margaret Reeves, Jo. Reeves, Nessie Palmer, Nellie Dearing, Doris Allfrey, C. O’Callaghan, Dorothy Bateman and Kathleen Bateman, Messrs Arthur Rayner, Hector Robb, Norman Flanagan, William Grant, Thomas Palmer and Ken Lorrett, and Masters Teddy and lan Bunny and little Valmai and Bruce Bunny. Coming Of Age Party. An enjoyable party was given recently by Mr and Mrs T. A. Grose, Harewood Road, in honour of the coming of age of their eldest son, Frank. The guests were conveyed to Mr Grose’s “ week-end ” residence at Mount Grey. Numbers of small parties explored the heights and the bush, while others had games on the lawn. The usual toasts were honoured and Mr Grose presented the customary key. Those present included:—Mr and Mrs T. A. Grose, Mr and Mrs C. Smith, Mr and Mrs C. Lancaster, T. and R. Partridge, L. Buckley, F. W. Lane, R. Morrison, R. and M. Sturrock, J. Hammond and M. Hill. Addington Burgesses’ Social. The fortnightly social conducted by the Addington Burgesses was held in the Selwyn Street Hall. The following were the prize-winners:—Ladies, Miss Parsons, Mrs Giles, Mrs Kuson; men. C. Sturrock, 11. Hyland and J. Dempsey. A guessing competition was won by Mrs Bradshaw. Lucky spot winners were Miss K. Grifiiths and Mr H. Lloyd. ———__
