PROTEST MADE AT SENTENCE OF DEATH.
GOVERNOR-GENERAL TO RECEIVE LETTER.
A protest against the canning out of the death sentence on Arthur Thomas Munn, who was convicted at Auckland for the murder of his wife, has been sent to the Governor-General by Mr N. M. Bel!. M.A., on behalf of the Free Religious Movement in Christchurch. The letter to his Excellency ronve' S an expression of the horror of the members of the movement at the decision of the Executive Council, of which the Governor-General is chairman, to proceed with the sentence of death. “ The meeting entirely dissociates itself from such action,” states the letter, “believing that the time has fully come for this country to follow the lead of twenty other more progressive countries of the world who have abolished the barbarous policy.
