CAR PLUNGES INTO RIVER DURING FOG.
DRIVER MISSED TURN AND WHEELS SLIPPED.
Missing the turn from Kilmore Street into Park Terrace, a five-seater Buick sedan car plunged into the Avon about 10.15 last night. The occupants, a man and his wife and three children, suffered shock, and received a wetting up to the knees in regaining the bank. A heavy fog which hung over the river and the vicinity caused the driver to lose his direction. The car mounted a sharp rise from the road to the bank and ran down the long slope, the brakes failing to hold the heavy vehicle on the frosi-covered grass. It came to rest at a steep angle, with most of the bonnet under the water. The occupants were able to crawl out without shifting the car from its precarious position. A truck was brought on the scene, and after some trouble the car was pulled out with the front liberally covered with mud and weeds. Apart from bent front mudguards, it did not appear to have teen damaged externally. ______
